Ramadan 2021 Special

Welcome to The New Arab’s special coverage of Ramadan 2021, the second year the holy Muslim fasting month comes in the shadow of the Covid-19 pandemic.

While their traditions and rituals have many things in common during this month, Muslims around the world, from Jakarta to Los Angeles, and from Capetown to Copenhagen, live in different conditions. Some are grappling with conflict, especially in the MENA region and Asia, others are leading more peaceful lives, yet are finding it hard to live in normalcy and have concerns about the state of the economy, healthcare, and the implications of the coronavirus and vaccination for their rites and rituals.

From April 12 to May 12, the estimated length of Ramadan this year, The New Arab is compiling a series of journalism tackling many of these issues and angles, as well as celebrating the festive month. Keep visiting this space for daily updates.
